Body Regions: Body regions help with looking at landmarks and to see which body parts are in which area and their surroundings. Body Cavities: Body cavities help with dividing the body into separate sections based on the organs in that area. The thoracic, abdominal, abdominopelvic, and pelvic cavity is on the ventral side. On the dorsal side is where vertebral and cranial cavity are located. Body Planes: Body planes divide the body into three sections. The transverse plane divides the body into a top and bottom half. For the frontal cavity, it splits the body into a ventral and dorsal side. Finally, the midsaggital plane has a right and left section.

Levels of Organization

Atoms: tiny building blocks of matter ⇩ Cells: smallest units of living things ⇩ Tissues: consists of groups of similar cells that have a common function ⇩ Organs: structure composed of at least 2 tissue types that perform a specific function for the body ⇩ Organ Systems: organs that cooperate and work closely together to accomplish a common purpose ⇩ Organisms: sum total of all structural levels working in unison to promote life

Introduction To Anatomy and Physiology

Anatomy is the structure and relationship of the body and its parts. Anatomy is studied at two levels: gross and microscopic. Those structures studied at the gross level are large and easily observable, whereas those at the microscopic level cannot be seen with the naked eye, but-as the name suggests-needs a microscope.  Physiology is the study of how the body parts work and carry-out life-sustaining activities. The structure always determines the function. This is called the  Principle of Complementarity.
